Justice with Compassion & Integrity
With over a decade of legal experience and a lifelong commitment to fairness, Rena is ready to serve Nash, Edgecombe, and Wilson Counties as your next District Attorney.
A Servant Heart. A Proven Advocate. The Right Choice for District Attorney.

Born and raised in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Rena Spellman is the youngest of five children from a single-parent household, where she learned the value of hard work, resilience, and community from her mother’s unwavering determination. That same drive has shaped her career as both a prosecutor and private attorney, where she has championed fairness, integrity, and justice for all.

With over a decade of legal experience, Rena has prosecuted thousands of cases—from traffic violations to the most serious felonies—across multiple North Carolina counties. In private practice, she represented clients in criminal, family, and civil matters, with a special commitment to defending those who could not afford legal representation. Her proven track record in both jury and bench trials reflects her skill, sound judgment, and dedication to justice.
Beyond The Courtroom
Rena has worked diligently with local law enforcement to prevent violent crime through the Violent Crime Apprehension Program Task Force; mentors youth through the Golden Leaf Foundation and inspires the next generation as a frequent speaker at schools and law camps. She also serves as a youth investor at Word Tabernacle Church.
Rena is a proud graduate of Elizabeth City State University (summa cum laude) and North Carolina Central University School of Law (magna cum laude). She is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and multiple local and alumni organizations. Rena is currently a board member for the Nash Edgecombe Wilson (“NEW”) Community Action organization, which focuses on inclusive growth, community empowerment, poverty reduction, and education & employment.
Her leadership and service have earned her statewide honors, including being named a Forty Under Forty Honoree by Elizabeth City State University in 2021 and receiving recognition for her outstanding service to the State of North Carolina in 2024.
Today, Rena lives in Nash County with her husband, Quinderra, the Head Football Coach at Louisburg College, and their two children. She is deeply rooted in her faith and family, and she finds her greatest joy in spending time with her loved ones and giving back to the community that has given so much to her.
